“The Bible Tells me so”

 

Covenant (Invitation) and Kingdom (Challenge) are the warp and weft of the bible, the threads that run through the Biblical story, God’s offer of invitation and challenge to us.

 

February 21 - Lent I:

  • Bread and Cup

  • Covenant is relationship:  the challenge is to live under God’s rule 

  • Scripture:  Hebrews 8:8b-12

  • Annual Congregational Meeting following 9:30 service

 

February 28 - Lent II:

  • Pitcher and Basin

  • Covenant is prosperity:  the challenge is to set free the power of God to work in our lives

  • Scripture:  John 10:7-18

 

March 3:

  • Wednesday Worship @ 2:00 p.m.

 

March 7 -  Lent III:

  • Sponge, nails, hammer

  • Covenant is forgiveness:  the challenge is to live into the future, the kingdom that is coming, to see how it breaks into the present and is not bound by the past, or failure.

  • Scripture: Luke 15:11-32

 

March 14 -  Lent IV:

  • Lantern, coins, sword

  • Covenant is grace:  the challenge is to live the good news

  • Scripture:  Luke 4:16-21

 

March 17

  • Wednesday Worship @ 2:00 p.m.

 

March 21 -  Lent V:

  • crown of thorns, purple robe

  • Covenant is our identity:  the challenge is to be who you truly are, God’s children/heirs

  • Scripture: Galatians 3:26 – 4:7

 

March 28 – Lent VI: - Palm Sunday 

  • palms

  • At the table of the Lord, on the road to the cross:  where covenant and kingdom meet

 

April 4 – Easter Sunday
